Writing Blog Process Tag

Welcome to my writing process but first  I want to thank the incredibly talented M.Q. Barber for tagging me in the Writing Process Blog Hop. M.Q writes, what I like to call, intelligent erotica and shouldn't be missed!

What am I working on now?

I am working on my third book although it is the second book in the Marsh Brothers’ Series, Inescapable. There are three brothers, Jordan, Ian and Trevor. They have established a successful e-commerce corporation which dominates electronic payments system around the world and as a result they’ve become extremely wealthy.   Unfortunately for the brothers they have found that although money holds so many benefits, it has also effectively isolated them from forming relationships.  The first story, Relentless, is about Jordan who manages to hide his wealth from the woman he loves while plotting to seduce her.

Inescapable is Ian's story. Ian initially loved the attention that his new fortune brought him, but his cynicism grew as he realized his popularity with women was more about his money than anything else. He reacts by dating numerous women but never for long. Until one night he meets a woman in a bar and takes her home on a Saturday night only to meet her across a boardroom table the following Monday. This woman doesn't want him for his money, she doesn't want him at all.  At least that what she says...
How does my work differ from other of its genre?
Well, I admit, I do like standard romantic tropes, but don’t we all? When reading romance readers already know how the story ends, it’s the journey that’s important to us.  What I've set out to do is create fun, easy to read stories with hot and steamy sex.  You see I don’t believe you have to have a dark tortured past to have hot and dirty sex. In fact, it just the opposite.  Relationships need to be filled with laughter to grow, not pain and angst. So it’s laughter and fun that I bring to these stories. The men in my stories are strong but the women are fully equipped to handle them. Above all, no one loses their sense of humor, whether they’re shot at, kidnapped or almost run over.

My Writing Process
I wish I could tell you I write an outline chapter by chapter and then I write my story, but I just don’t.  I start with a story idea and then do some research and then I begin letting my imagination go.   I start creating the characters and thinking about their strengths and weaknesses. In my head I have a general idea about where the story is going but often the characters end up taking me places on their own.   I frequently get stuck and suffer writer’s block but eventually I work my way through.

Finishing is just the beginning because the next step is to write a second draft and then it’s passed onto my critique partner.  She tells me what she likes and doesn't like and then there are more drafts to follow. Many drafts later a final product emerges after much struggle and suffering. It kind of reminds me of having a baby but instead of a baby you've created a book!
Why do I write what I do?
I’ve always loved reading romance since it’s like falling in love every time you read a book.  It just seemed like a natural extension to start writing my own stories and I found bringing your characters to life has its own magic.  When you have a reader tell you that they wanted to jump into your story and join your characters you know you've accomplished something pretty special.

The Writing Blog Tour continues…..
I’ve tagged the lovely and talented Krystal Shannon, best known for incredible Vegas Mates Series.
Romance author, Krystal Shannan, lives in Texas and is married to the love-of-her-life. They have a spunky young daughter who believes in fairies and keeps them both on their toes.
Krystal professes to loving shoes, but avoids wearing them at all costs. She is a SyFy geek at heart. Anything and everything that has to do with magick, supernatural, or paranormal is her cup of tea. Which, by the way, she drinks by the gallon.
If she’s not curled up on the couch with her laptop creating sinfully delicious stories with just a splash of humor, she’s probably watching movies like Underworld, X-Men, or even Die Hard (nothing wrong with a little action, right?). She doesn’t think so.
Favorite TV shows include, but are not limited to… Lost Girl, Merlin, Warehouse 13, Castle, Rizzoli and Isles, True Blood, Vampire Diaries, and Revenge.
She enjoys reading romance in all genres, but especially paranormal. Her favorite book is ACHERON by Sherrilyn Kenyon. But really, if it has a ‘Happily Ever After’, she’s on board!
She is an active member in her local RWA chapter DARA.

So check out Krystal's website to see her post on April 7th!
